Teen Artists Debut in Style at the Artists on the Rise Exhibit
It was a beautiful Sunday at the Montpelier Arts center, where artists, their families, friends and art lovers all enjoyed the work of local artists. One of three exhibits debuted Sunday was the Artists on the Rise juried exhibit with artwork only by teens! Georgia Deal, of the Corcoran College of Art and Design, and Laurel Lukaszewski, a D.C.-based artist, judged the teens and chose some great winners! The gallery showed a mixture of photos, oil paintings, charcoal drawings, sculptures and more! Teen artists, dressed in their best, took pictures next to their works and chatted with art lovers about their inspirations and techniques. First place went to Amanda Song for her digital photo “Swings” and second place went to Taylor Motley, for the oil paining “West Virginia’s Side Yard.” Third place went to Ahrdesheer Mudd for “The Messenger,” made out aluminum. Photos, sculptures and paintings depicted everyday life as well as abstract ideas. A lot of talent was on display at the gallery! The exhibition will be running until March 28, so go check it out teens! The gallery at the Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel is open 10 a.m.- 5p.m. seven days a week.
