A tremendous amount of talent was on display Saturday night at the Temple Hills Community Center. Teens throughout the area competed in the annual Show What U Got Dance Competition to a packed house and showed some amazing routines, costumes, acrobatics and more. Six teams of teens and one exhibition team (Raw Element dance company) competed for prize money and huge trophies and the night featured trivia questions, a freestyle competition, a Dougie contest and more for the audience to get a chance to participate. Many different types of dancing were displayed from hip-hop to tap to a unique Indian fusion. Guests danced in their seats along with the dancers and chanted the name of their favorite team. Keara Watkins, 12, and Kaylin Harris, 13, were there to cheer on the McDonough High dance team and pom squad, who were competing at Temple Hills for the first time. They took pictures of their friends and gave them a standing ovation when they were awarded medals. With much anticipation it was announced that there would have to be a tie-breaker dance-off between DLG (the Delicious Lawn Gnomes) and the tap dancers from Terry’s School of Dance and Gymnastics. After an intense second performance by both teams, boys versus girls, the winners were finally announced. In third place, winning $150 were the Desi Dancers who had a unique mix of traditional Indian dance with hip-hop. Second place, after an intense battle, went to DLG, and the group won $200. First place went to the Beyonce-tappers from Terry’s School of Dance and the dancers were ecstatic. Congrats to all the participants and winners! No matter who won, it was a fun night of friendly competition, sportsmanship and tons of talent!
