As the clock strikes midnight on this New Year’s Eve many of us will be declaring this year’s New Year’s resolution. Many involve helping others or doing well in school but some may include improving your health and nutrition for the coming year. There are many places in Prince George’s County where you can get one step closer to achieving that goal, be it fitness facilities or events focusing on a healthier you! Many community centers offer workout equipment and gyms to play basketball, volleyball and many other sports. Learn a new sport at places like the Prince George’s County Sports and Learning Complex, which has aquatic facilities, a gymnastics center, an indoor track and much more! Take a fitness and nutrition class at the Wayne K. Curry Sports and Learning Center in January or take yoga, zumba or weigh lifting classes. Also, you can contact your local community center for information on how to sign up for the MNCPPC Inter-Center Basketball league, a surefire way to stay active (and feed your competitive side) (pictured above). On Friday, January 4, head to the College Park Community Center for the “New Year, New You,” event focusing on fitness techniques and how to live a healthy lifestyle. Come to the event from 7-10 or take advantage of the center’s weight room and gym other times for a good workout. The next day, head to the Prince George’s Plaza Community Center at 7 p.m. for Poly Pong, an “ultimate ping pong” that is sure to get you moving and breaking a sweat. No matter what your resolution this year, get out and enjoy 2013 Xtreme Teens! (Photo by Cassi Hayden)
