Open Mic at Café Groove Displays Talented Teens!

“It’s the weekend and we’re gonna have a good time!” said Truth, the host for the January edition of everyone’s favorite night of poetry, singing and dancing: Café Groove!
Held at the Rollingcrest-Chillum Community Center Friday night, teens from different community centers all gathered in the center’s gym for a fun night of performances. A live, three-piece band had the teens dancing in their seats between acts and the hosts kicked off the night by rapping Notorious B.I.G. while the audience helped themselves to food and drinks. The room was dark and candlelit, a perfect ambiance for the open mic performances. There was a comedy routine, some singing and dancing (with plenty of popping and locking). There were even a few singing duets, where the teens sang Mario’s “Let Me Love You,” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds.” The audience was waving their cell phones like they were at a real concert and each act received plenty of applause. Performing teens were given the audience’s full attention, “respecting the mic.” There were plenty of teens destined to be the next Beyonce, Chris Brown or Kevin Hart at Café Groove!
