Go Outside for Fun in Prince George’s County
As the weather gets colder, the leaves change and fall sets in, there are plenty of places for Xtreme Teens and Preteens to go out and enjoy the great outdoors! And, to combine this sense of adventure with the all-important aspect of learning, visit three Prince George’s County parks that offer a combination of just that! Mount Ranier Nature and Recreation Center, at 4701 31st Place in Mount Ranier, is the county’s only urban nature center and has many cool hands-on exhibits, live animals and even an outdoor amphitheater. Attend the Halloweenie Roast Campfire on October 19 or the Halloween Glow Party on October 26. Another great place to visit is the Patuxent River Park on 16000 Croom Airport Road in Upper Marlboro, in the Patuxent River watershed. The 4th Annual American Indian Festival will be held there on October 20, and check out the Jug Bay 10K/5K “Run for Wildlife” and 3k Fun Walk on November 3. The park offers many recreational opportunities including camping, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, boating and so much more! Thirdly, the Bladensburg Waterfront Park (pictured above), at 4601 Annapolis Road in Bladensburg is at the mouth of the Anacostia River. With a fishing pier, playground and walking trails there’s fun for the whole family. You can even learn about the park’s involvement in the War of 1812 at the visitor’s center. So go out and enjoy the season at three of the MNCPPC’s outdoor educational experiences!
