Come Out and Play in Prince George’s County
On the perfect fall night, residents of College Park gathered together at the Lakewood Neighborhood Community Park for a night of recreation and fun. The first of three nights, on Tuesday, September 25, the 2012 Come Out and Play event kicked off with a success! There was so much to do, it was hard for kids and their families to choose! There were fall crafts, pogo sticks, disc golf and basketball. As part of the mobile recreation program, the county provided roller skates for kids, who zipped around in a corner of the basketball courts. Moms were taking an aerobic class as well, working on their fitness while doing pushups at the park benches, jump roping and doing lunges. And, as always, there was a line for the ever-popular face paint station where kids were getting everything from soccer balls to spider man painted on their bodies. Jacqueline Hernandez, 10, was making a bracelet while her brothers played on the playground and parents played basketball. She tried the pogo sticks earlier on in the night but found the crafts were more her style. A student at Riverdale Elementary, her favorite class is reading. But, don’t ask her to pick a favorite book. “I like reading them all,” she said. Though the DJ couldn’t make it to pump up the party with some tunes, the night was a fun community event that got all family members moving and enjoying the great fall weather! The event will be held at the Bradbury Community Center on Wednesday, September 26, and at the Fairwood Community Park the following night, both from 6-8:30. Come out and check out the fun, you certainly won’t be disappointed!
