Annual Rock the Boat Party is a Hit for Xtreme Teens
Dressed in their best and ready to hit the dance floor, Prince George’s County Xtreme Teens came aboard the Spirit of Washington boat for the annual Rock the Boat event on July 19. Teens ages 13-17 came out for the party held on from 5-10 p.m. ready to enjoy dinner, dancing and to hang out with their friends. Angie Ang, hype girl and radio personality from 93.9 WKYS, provided the tunes, full of hip-hop, rap and go-go songs. “It’s a party on a boat!” she yelled to get the crowd excited. Shannon Alsobrooks, 16, and Ochi Nwokoro, 16, were waiting to eat dinner that included salad, herb chicken and pasta. The two, who are friends at Frederick Douglas high school, were excited for the boat ride itself. “I look forward to enjoying the ship,” Nwokoro said. Alsobrooks was looking forward to seeing “a different side of DC,” from the water. Teens could go to the top deck of the boat to take in the views of National Harbor and Arlington, Va. Kyon Adams, 13, and William Woodard, 15, were enjoying the breeze. “I’m looking forward to good food, good music, a beautiful sunset,” Adams said. Woodard was also enjoying the sightseeing. They probably would check out the dance floor, where teens were showing their best moves on the first deck, but wouldn’t dance, they said. From the disco ball on the stage, to the group pictures taken on the top deck, it was clear that all teens, volunteers and crew were enjoying the party of another successful Rock the Boat!
