Activity-Packed Night at William Wirt Safe Summer
Between skating, music, board games and basketball, there’s always something to do on a summer night at William Wirt Middle School. On Wednesdays, from 8 to 10 p.m., the Skate Mobile, a portable skating rink party, brings music, skates and fun to the school’s gymnasium. Between good tunes and skating, kids of all ages enjoyed turning the gym into an old-fashioned roller rink, with a twist. The skating ended around 10, but the night was far from over. The kids and teens enjoyed free time in the gym, playing basketball, video games and jump roping. “The kids really like to play basketball,” said Kim Rodgers on the Safe Summer staff. Matilda Bangura, 21, and her sister Isata, 18, were watching their brothers and sisters play basketball along with a friend Joniah Young, 18. They all joined in a game of Scattergories later, as many of the kids and teens were playing board games. Other nights at William Wirt involve Rock Band nights, dodge ball games, volleyball and even sewing classes. For safe summer fun, there’s always something to do at William Wirt and many other locations throughout Prince George’s county!
