2013 Teen Cotillion is a Grand Event to Celebrate Debs and Beaus!
It was a great occasion on Sunday, May 5, as the 18 Debs and 18 Beaus were officially announced as the 2013 Teen Cotillion! The 15th annual event, held at Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, was a grand evening which celebrated the teens' accomplishments after a rewarding 16-week program! Family, friends, M-NCPPC staff and even lawmakers began by enjoying a meal in honor of the Debs and Beaus and, first up, the 18 Beaus were introduced one by one, walking in with their mothers or other significant women in her life. They then shared a dance with their moms, and there were many tears of joy in the hall. Next, the Debs were announced and they danced hand in hand with their fathers. The Beaus and Debs next danced in their groups, with much cheering for their awesome dance moves. The Cotillion members then paired up with each other for a great final dance. Guest speakers for the evening involved Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, and Tracee Wilkins, Prince George's County Bureau Chief for News4. They congratulated the Debs and Beaus on their accomplishments, participating in workshops every Friday night for the 16 weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Congeniality were next announced: Walter Rivera and LaKisha Wilson won the honor for being outstanding in the program. They both said they will miss their fellow Cotillion members! The Cotillion teens had many great experiences over the course of the program - going skiing, visiting New York City, participating in community service - and everyone was proud of their accomplishments. Program Director Lori Smith was choking back tears at the end of the event. "I'm in awe of this whole event," she said. "You all are wonderful, it doesn't stop here!" It was a truly glorious occasion and congrats to all the 2013 Teen Cotillion Debs and Beaus!
