The Youth Empowerment Conference Displays Many Opportunities For Teens to Get Involved
The Youth Empowerment Conference, held on Saturday, April 6 at the Suitland Community Center was a fun day full of music, food, friends and, most importantly, empowerment! In the center’s gym, teens could visit tables with many opportunities for volunteering, mentoring and careers. A DJ played great music to accompany the day, and teens could stop by the WPGC booth or look at a cool hot rod car from Easterns Motors! Boxed Chick-fil-a lunches and door prizes were definitely a plus too! Marquis Gotti, 15, and Travon Courtney, 15, saw a flier for the event and decided to come check it out. They were taking a break after talking to the representative at the ROTC booth and were having a great time! Tables included the Mentoring Young Girls program, Men Aiming Higher, A+ Kids and Street Wize. And there was, of course, an Xtreme Teens and Parks and Recreation booth with fun giveaways and a photographer taking pictures of teens. It was a great event full of many opportunities to get involved and, ultimately, become empowered!
