African American Family Day Festival at the Sports and Learning Complex is a Fun Day for All!
It was a busy day at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover on Saturday. Between normal gymnastics and swimming classes, a track meet and many taking advantage of the complex’s other facilities, the place was bustling. But, a unique event for the day provided some added excitement to the day: the African American Family Day Festival. Vendors lined the entrance selling various products including jewelry, knitted scarves and sweaters, traditional music and even Girl Scout cookies! Also during the day, families could participate in various workshops, take an African Dance class, hear storytellers and much more. As Black History Month comes to a close, the Sports and Learning complex hosted other events. Each Wednesday the complex hosted a series of documentaries and, on February 15, there was an open mic poetry session. These are just a few of the great events and programs held throughout the month and the African American Family Festival was no exception!
