Get Active in Prince George’s County: Go Ice Skating!
Though the weather may not yet be cold enough to freeze our neighborhood lakes and puddles, Prince George’s County Xtreme Teens, Preteens and their families can still experience the fun that is ice-skating at three great locations throughout the county. In College Park, come to the Herbert Wells Ice Rink (it’s skates pictured) on Paint Branch Parkway. Most nights, it only costs $4 for teens but some nights, come out for pickup ice hockey or broomball. The rink even holds figure skating lessons for those looking to channel their inner Michelle Kwan or Scott Hamilton. The rink also the men’s and women’s hockey games for the University of Maryland, check out the schedule for when to see the Terps in action! Another rink, the Tucker Road Ice Rink, has public skating sessions as well. Come for the “Super Saver,” sessions on Fridays from noon-2 p.m. where admission and skate rentals are only $4! A fun activity unique to the Tucker Road rink is Bumper Cars on Ice, held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. This fun twist on the traditional carnival ride is only $4 for teens and preteens under 18 and $5 for adults. The third and final rink in the county is The Gardens Ice House, on Old Gunpowder Rd. in Laurel. Located in the Fairlands Regional Park, the rink is open 365 days a year! The ice house holds hockey and figure skating camps but also public sessions, as listed on thegardensicehouse.com. On January 1, from 8-10 a.m., enjoy free skating!
