Family Movie Night is A Way to Cool Down
Teens and their families came to the Glassmanor Community Center Monday for a movie and a cool way to spend the night. The Safe Summer event, designed as the perfect way to stay safe and have fun during the summer, was held from 9:30 p.m. to midnight in the center's gym. Originally planned as an outdoor movie event, the big, inflatable screen was brought indoors because of the heat wave. Many area homes were without power, and the movie provided a way to stay cool as well as enjoy time with family and friends. The movie, Men in Black III, provided plenty of exciting time travel, aliens and funny one-liners. Devon Howard, 17, had been playing basketball and the community center earlier in the night. He came to the gym as a way to relax. He used to live in the area and has spent many times at Glassmanor. "I've been coming here my whole life," Howard said. Kicking back and laughing at the movie, Howard and others enjoyed their night, even though the movie wasn't shown "under the stars."
