Teens from Prince George's County had the opportunity to travel out of town to enjoy a fun-filled day at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. There was too much excitement to be tired; the teens entered Largo/Kettering community center early Saturday morning ready to hit the road but first parents were reassured teens would have safe travels and of course an Xtremely great time.
As the Hershey park signs approached the bus was filled with chatter; everyone discussing what they plan to do, see and purchase while in the park. The youth were broken into groups with a Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission employee to accompany them on their journey. As the teens led the way they enjoyed the Coastline Plunge water tube rides and Tidal Force which is the tallest splash-down ride in the world. The most talked about rides were: Laff Trakk, the first indoor, spinning, glowing rollercoaster in the United States as well as Sky Rush, the tallest, fastest, aggressive thrill ride in Hershey Park and Storm Runner the coaster that speeds you through a 135 foot cobra loop. Imagine being 200 feet in the air going downhill at 75 mph. or being launched from 0 to 72mph. in two seconds on a rollercoaster. Xtreme…right?
A lot of fun was had on this trip but also a lot of opportunities to learn and grow. Many overcame fears, tried new things, made new friends, and had the chance to work as a team navigating through the park and compromising on what attractions to visit. By the end of the trip everyone boarded the coach bus with a story to share, a smile on their face and another great memory to recall. We are ending summer with Xtreme events our Xtreme Teens will never forget.
