A Day in the Park: Xtreme Teens summer centers Rock the Park together
Xtreme Teens from summer centers all around Prince George’s County came together Friday, July 29 to Rock the Park at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro. Despite temperatures of over 100 degrees, the teens enjoyed the activities throughout the day, often taking refuge in the abundant shaded areas.
“I could be staying at home and playing Call of Duty all day, but coming out, meeting these people, yeah that’s better,” said 17-year-old Olu Balogun, who attends the William Wirt Middle School teen center.
The event allowed not only for teens from different centers to comingle, but to enjoy activities beyond those of the regular camp day. On the grounds of the park was a DJ playing current hits as well as inflatable play equipment, games, food, skates, and water balloons, and the festivities were exclusive to teen center attendees. “I like that it’s just for teens,” said 13-year-old Jada Mathis of the event, “it’s not a lot of places that have things just for us.”
