DESCRIPTION: Pyramid Atlantic Art Center (PAAC) is proud to announce a new residency program, In Shift. In mid-June, PAAC will be moving from one home to another. To mark this move we would like to invite artists to play a key role in connecting our past with our future. The objective of the In Shift Residency is to provide an opportunity for an artist, or group of artists, to activate and document cultural programming in PAAC for six months during the move, while providing them with full access to studios, equipment, and an artist community for their own work. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in the research, development, or execution of work that explores the ideas of creative placemaking, transition, movement or action, and/or growth.
ELIGIBILITY: The residency is open to national and international artists, showing a strong professional working history. A variety of disciplines are accepted including, but not limited to, printmaking, papermaking, book arts, graphic novels, painting, drawing, media/new genre, performance, film/video, and interdisciplinary arts. Applications consisting of small collaboratives (2-3 total members) are also eligible.
REQUIREMENTS: In Shift residents are required to lead/teach 5 six hour workshops/interventions (one a month approximately) for the public. If a collaborative group is accepted, the number of workshops/interventions provided will equal the number of artists in the group multiplied by 5. In Shift residents are required to help document PAAC’s transition (5 hours per week) via social media, blogging and/or photography. In Shift residents will be required to manage and guide Fall Studio interns in carrying out a small artist book edition, which will be presented at PAAC’s 14th Biennial Book Arts Fair.
STIPEND: Selected In Shift resident(s) will receive a $400 per month stipend.
RESIDENCY DATES: June 1-November 30, 2016
DEADLINE: May 6, 2016
NOTIFICATION: May 15, 2016
