"Give Drugs a Bad Rap" Competition Aims to Rap for a Reason
As a way to spread a message and display some Xtreme talent, the Prince George's County Health Department and 93.9 WYKS is set to announce the winner of their "Give Drugs a Bad Rap" competition pitting teens ages 13-17 against each other for a good reason. The contest asked for teens in the county to submit videos of them singing, rapping or reciting their original poetry about why teens should stay away from illegal drugs and other substances. The contest asked teens to rap about the dangers of nicotine, alcohol, marijuana, K2 and other illegal substances. After severe weather caused the deadline for entry to be extended to July 15, many great entries were posted online. Twenty-five of the winning entries won prize packs, 10 semi-finalists won the chance to record their song professionally and three finalists will perform at the 93.9 WYKS Russ Parr Summer Jam at The Showplace Arena on August 11. Winners were voted on online and one grand prize winner will receive a $1,000 Visa gift card. The contest encourages parents and teens to talk about the dangers of drug use, especially among teens. Contest entry Jeeda rapped "Killing brain cells, pound fail, you looking tacky/Binge drinking is dangerous and could kill you man," while 23 year-old Octavia (pictured) dedicated her song to those who know of someone who died because of drugs or alcohol. Come out and support the three finalists and learn how you can help raise awareness of illegal drug use in the county and have fun rocking out with meaning. (Source: http://givedrugsabadrap.com/)
