Up all night: Girls in Prince George
Slumber parties are taking Prince George’s Xtreme Teens by storm, as girls-only and boys-only events have gained extreme popularity in the past year. However slumbering is not really an option. The idea was born when a few girls at Prince George’s Plaza Community Center asked the staff if they could have a sleepover at the center, which sparked discussion on creating an event. After a very successful first girls all-nighter in the fall, Xtreme Teens held a Just Us Boys event in March, and then it came time for another event, a Pajama Jam for the girls April 13-14. Over 160 girls from all over the county came out to Oakcrest Community Center for a collection of workshops, a fashion show and photo shoot, rap lessons and various other activities. Professionals and other guests even came out the support the event and lend advice to the girls about everything from beauty to improvised acting. One thing was ensured though—the girls had no choice but to be up all night. Not only did the staff present advise “absolutely no sleeping,” but so many exciting events took place that missing out was not an option. While they may have been snoring the next day at home, it’s likely that many Prince George’s girls will return for future all-nighters again and again.
