Unified Relay
Those with intellectual disabilities continue to be one of the most marginalized and discriminated against populations in the world. The Special Olympics works every day towards changing the world through sport to create respectful and inclusive communities and the Flame of Hope that is carried during the run acts as the beacon to unite communities in acceptance. Team Parks & Rec was the first team in Maryland to receive the torch! The Maryland- National Capital Park and Planning Commission Therapeutic Recreation & Inclusion Services Department was more than happy to participate in this once in a lifetime experience that will deliver the Flame of Hope from Athens, Greece to Los Angeles for the 2015 World Summer Games. Our goal is also to unite the country on an issue that has been going on for too long. Great job to all of the runners, walkers, joggers, and participates!
