Trees & Teens
Many people wonder how trees can help the environment. We commonly hear that trees are good for the environment and that deforestation, conversely, is bad for our planet. Planting trees is a must if we want to save our planet. A tree not only removes harmful chemicals from the soil, but also helps reduce the greenhouse effect leading to global warming. On November 26, 2014, Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission decided to take action and give back to our parks and our planet. Volunteers, ages 13 and older, along with M-NCPPC staff were recruited to participate in an environmental preservation opportunity. Volunteers took a few hours out of their Thanksgiving break to plant trees at Quintana Park. Through the cold rain and heavy flakes of snow the staff and volunteers worked diligently to complete the task at hand. A few participants shared that even though the weather conditions varied at times, they continued planting the trees because they knew how important it is to the community and the planet.
