On Monday November 3, 2014 the Xtreme Teens took a road trip! At 4:00 AM we packed up, hit the road and traveled to the ”big Apple” to view a live taping of BET's hit TV show "106 & Park" in New York City. Once we arrived in New York City, the teens almost immediately ran into a few famous celebrities, to name a few; Teyana Taylor and Erica Mena (recording artists), Kerry Washington (star of the television series, Scandal), Dr. Marc Lamont Hill (journalist and author), “Mr. 106 himself” Bow Wow (rapper) and co-host Keshia Chanté. Host Bow Wow came over and shook hands with a few of the teens and gave the Maryland Department of Parks and Recreations a HUGE shout out on live television! Both the teens and the Department of Parks and Recreations thought that was pretty awesome.
Kerry Washington was one of the special guests and during the sit-down interview with hosts Bow Wow and Keshia Chanté , Ms. Washington openly discussed her views regarding her priorities, family and self-image. Special guest Dr. Marc Lamont Hill also joined us for a sit down talk to discuss the harsh realities of unemployment and how important it is that we all vote. Once the taping was complete, we went to Planet Hollywood for a delicious meal. The kids had a great time in New York City seeing “106 & Park,” Times Square, famous celebrities and the Planet Hollywood restaurant. The teens thoroughly enjoyed the trip and voiced that they would definitely be attending the upcoming travel events with the Xtreme Teen Program.
