APPLICATIONS DUE AUGUST, 28th. All Artists (selected or not) will be notified by Tuesday, September 1st. Selected artists are required to participate in the SIF Orientation + Jam on September 7th, 6:30 - 9:30pm, Location: DC (TBD)
The Social Innovation Festival, September 9th - 13th in Washington, DC, hosted by DC+Acumen aims to empower, inform, and connect DC’s community of changemakers. This year’s Festival, Creating Social Innovation Through Tech, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, is a celebration of how innovations in business, the creative arts, and technology aid in the fight for social justice.
Art in Praxis is proud to power the 1st Artist in Residence Program at the Social Innovation Festival! Culture is one of our most powerful tools for transformation in communities and organizations. We need artists in the room to help tell the story and move the conversation.
Throughout the Festival, selected artists will serve as creative provocateurs, providing artistic responses and documentation. Imagine, a powerful panel on returning citizens closes with a call to action in the form of a poem, a visual artist unveils a mural that captures a cross-cultural exchange, or a dancer embodies a story shared during a keynote presentation.
The Artists in Residence will function as a performance ensemble; working in collaboration to generate and present original work with attendees and in response to themes of the convening: the Global War on Drugs, Justice, Technology, Social Impact, Hip-Hop, Mass Incarceration, Innovation, Sustainability, and Inclusivity.
DC area performers, poets, dancers, and visual artists with a consistent art practice, interest in collaboration, and demonstrated commitment to social justice are encouraged to apply to this unique opportunity.
