Meet the Artist: Blessing Hancock at Harmony Hall
Prince George’s County Public Art Award

Meet the Artist, Blessing Hancock, at Harmony Hall Regional Center on Monday, June 29th at 7 pm!

Blessing Hancock will give a presentation on her sculpture where she will ask the community for input in the form of adjectives defining the Police Force – words such as “valor” and “bravery.” These words will be built into the sculpture, reflecting community participation and connection to the Police force among the constituents of District 8. The new building is expected to be complete by late summer, 2015, with the installation of the sculpture to follow.

Noted public artist Blessing Hancock has been awarded the commission for an exterior sculpture to be placed near the entrance of a new Police Station located at the intersection of Livingston Road and Indian Head Highway in Fort Washington. The state-of-the-art building, designed by Arel Architects, will include a 14-foot steel sculpture designed by Hancock that celebrates the police force of Fort Washington.

Hancock, based in Tucson, Arizona, has an extensive portfolio of public art pieces located across the U.S. She works with light and color to energize her sculptures and to give them strong nighttime and daytime presence. Her sculpture Electrofish was installed in Rockville, Maryland’s Town Square in 2014.
