Things are getting fiery with Raku at Harmony Hall!
If you haven't had the opportunity to experience Raku, it is quite the adventure! On Friday, March 27th, the Raku class at Harmony Hall Regional Center held their end of course Raku firing. It was a sight to behold as handmade clay works, molded and painted by adult students ranging from beginner to advanced, were engulfed in a fiery gas kiln and emerged glistening!

Raku is an ancient form of Japanese pottery that uses low firing temperatures and the removal of the pieces from the kiln while still glowing hot. Because this process creates a unique surface finish, often with crackled textures, Raku techniques have been adopted and modified by potters around the world. Through class demonstrations, participants are taught an introductory understanding of Raku pottery, firing procedures, kiln types, Raku clay and glazes.

If you've ever had an interest in pottery and never took the time to learn more, then Harmony Hall's Raku course lead by Kennard Copeland, Kimbery Skinner, and volunteer Dale O. Jackson is just for you. Pottery has a way of being therapeutic and helps you to explore creatively in ways you may have never thought possible. Don't wait, register today! Let art improve your quality of life!
