Art materials are all around us, and that includes the great outdoors! The Greenbelt Recreation Department Arts Program invites guests to create colorful weavings using sticks as our looms. All ages are invited to participate in this FREE Community Art Drop-In workshop on Sunday, November 6, from 1-3pm at the Greenbelt Community Center. The workshop will be led by Rachel Cross, one of eight Artists in Residence with studios at the Community Center located at 15 Crescent Road in Greenbelt, Maryland. All materials will be provided. No reservations are needed.
To start off your afternoon of culture outdoors, enjoy a walking tour with a Greenbelt Museum docent! Meet at 1pm at the Museum house, located at 10-B Crescent Road, across the street from the Community Center. Tours last up to an hour, leaving plenty of time to also attend the weaving workshop. Docents will share information about Greenbelt’s architectural styles, New Deal-era sculptures, and philosophies of cooperative living that influenced Greenbelt’s design. There is a fee of $5 per person. In the event of rain, the walking tour will be canceled. Please call 240-542-2064 after 10am or check the Greenbelt Museum’s Facebook page for updated information about weather related cancellations.
