Fairland Aquatics Construction Blog Entry #14
As you can see in the picture above, both the Main Pool and Training Pool are filled and almost ready to go. The spa was also full as of last week but it has been losing water over the past couple of days. We are actively trying to locate the source of the leak and expect to have the problem fixed by the time we are ready to open. Because the pools have been empty for several months, now that we have filled and fired them back up, we are noticing minor repairs that need to take place in order to ensure the pools retain water and not waste valuable resources (i.e. water and chemicals). The good news is...the spa feature wall was repaired during this closure and this amenity will work to further enhance patrons' visual experience as they relax in the spa! I'm sure everybody is aware of the uncharacteristically cold weather that has befallen the National Capitol Region during this past month. This weather did some pretty serious damage to our HVAC/Pool Pak units. The primary functions of the HVAC/Pool Pak units are to: 1) Keep the humidity level in the Natatorium at a comfortable level 2) Work in conjunction with our boiler units to heat the pools. The parts needed to repair the system are custom, in high demand and will require a crane to install. With that said, I am happy to report that the repairs are expected to begin by week’s end. However, this issue affects our ability to heat the pool water to acceptable swimming temperatures. Once repaired, it will take additional time to heat the pools. The spa’s new filtration system is up and running in perfect order (despite the loss of water). There were a couple of mechanical setbacks with the startup of the Main and Taining Pool filtration sytems but both should be up and running by the end of this week. We are also scheduled to be inspected by the County Health Department this week. Once the inspection is completed we are one step closer to reopening, as we will then have our County pool operating permit! We expect the inspections to go very well...Wish us luck! Regretfully, we will not be able to open the facility to the public by our target date, which was January 31. Though we are disappointed that we will not be opening in January, the Commission is working VERY hard to get Fairland’s natatorium back up and running as soon as possible. Please keep checking the website and this blog for news on an opening date. If you have any further questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to call us at the facility at 301-362-6060. We will be happy to answer any of your questions to the best of our ability.
