5 Digs
Fairland Aquatics Construction Blog Entry #11
Situated in the far shallow end of the Main Pool is a very heavy slab of concrete (approximately 30 tons) that is capable of being adjusted from a depth of 5' all the way up to 0' depth (flush with the pool deck). We call this part of the pool the "movable floor" section. This feature comes in handy during the summer when our Training Pool is over capacity and we need more shallow water to accommodate the many non-swimmers that sometimes crowd the smaller of our 2 pools. In this case we would raise the floor from its typical 4' resting place to 3'. The depth also needs to be adjusted (deeper) whenever we host a long course swim meet in which participants will need to do racing dives into this section of the pool. Two of the hydraulic lines that make this thing work were broken and very much needed to be fixed. Pictured above you will see the 2 very brave souls who were tasked with spending numerous hours under the floor to fix these lines. There are very few pools in North America that have a movable floor. We are happy to say that the lines are now fixed and this very important and useful feature of our natatorium will be fully operational when we re-open.
