Arts On A Roll Seeks Teaching Artists In Dance, Theatre, Digital Media, Visual Arts, and Writing/Storytelling

A program of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, in Prince George’s County, Arts on a Roll is a mobile, on-demand arts service that can be booked for events and recurring workshops. Examples of events include: festivals, community days, family gatherings, birthday parties, after school programs, etc. The goal of this program is to provide engaging and affordable arts services to people of all ages.
We are currently seeking teaching artists in the areas of Visual Arts, Dance, Digital Media, Poetry/Spoken Word/Storytelling, and Theatre. Details about each area’s requirements and how to apply are below.
Visual Arts
Arts on a Roll is seeking teaching artists in the visual arts (painters, sculptors, photographers, cartoonists, jewelers, textiles etc.) and is in immediate need of teaching artists available during weekdays and/or who have experience working with people with disabilities. Workshops could include: sketching, comics, sculpting, jewelry making, weaving, crocheting, etc.
Dance
Arts on a Roll is seeking teaching artists in dance/choreography (Latin, ballroom, modern, jazz, hip hop, African) and is in immediate need of teaching artists available on weekdays, and/or who have experience working with people with disabilities.
Digital Media
Arts on a Roll is seeking teaching artists in digital media (videographers, photographers, computer animators, audio technicians, etc.) and is in immediate need of teaching artists available on weekdays and/or who have experience working with people with disabilities. Digital media workshops could include video/sound editing, graphic design/animation, photo editing, etc.
Creative Writing/Poetry
Arts on a Roll is seeking teaching artists in creative writing/poetry and is in immediate need of teaching artists available on weekdays, and/or who have experience working with people with disabilities. Workshops could include: an introduction to styles of poems, an in-depth look at the writing techniques of specific artists, guided free-style brain storming sessions, review and application of the parts of a narrative, etc.
Theatre
Arts on a Roll is seeking teaching artists in theatre (Playwriting, devised theatre, musical theatre, improvisation and comedy) and is in immediate need of teaching artists available on weekdays, and/or who have experience working with people with disabilities. Workshops could include: improv, scene study, characterization, creative movement, pantomime etc…
The ideal candidate
* Has at least 1 year of experience teaching in your artistic field.
* Possesses a thorough knowledge of the elements, processes, skills, and forms of their field and is able to express that knowledge clearly to a diverse audience, from young children to older adults.
* The ability to facilitate large group activities while maintaining composure and providing the energy needed to draw in and engage participants.
* A valid driver’s license, and the willingness to drive the Arts on a Roll van to various destinations in Prince George’s County and the surrounding DC Region.

FAQ
*Arts on a Roll teaching artists are part-time employees with flexible hours based on the needs of the program. Hours can vary between approximately 1 hour a month to 8 hours a week.
*Availability during standard business hours can open teaching artists up to more scheduling opportunities. There is also the ability to work around full-time jobs.
*The average day begins at the office in Greenbelt, MD. Teaching artists will be asked to complete a driving course and drive the Arts on a Roll van to and from events.
* Applicants will need to pass a fingerprint background check initiated by our office during the application process.
* The hourly rate we offer is commensurate with experience, between $16 - $26/hour.
